Category Archives: Pieces of Me
In which I respond to questions from slightly altered versions of an about-me and throwback tag.
No. This has nothing to do with Johnny Cash – And I’m not ashamed to admit that I can’t stand the guy.
In my last post, I said that I am the night, but I am not the scary night. I feel like elaborating. I like gothic things and dark things, but not evil things. There is a difference between dark and evil, most of you pagan people get this. I prefer to hang out on the dark side – they have COOKIES! – but remain within sight of the light.
When I was a teen I recall talking to my father about a dark movie I liked, and he said “but I thought you hated scary shows.” I had to explain to him that I like dark shows, not evil shows. At the time, I didn’t know how to articulate that difference so I think I explained it as liking romanticized evil.
(please forgive lack of smooth transition to next paragraph – I just want to say what I want to say and not write a term paper, lol)
I will always root for the villain in movies, whether or not the movie is set up so that we are supposed to do so. My imaginary self is a super villain. Even though I intimidate no one in this world (recall bat meme from previous post), my friends and family know me as an aspiring evil mastermind. Last Yule, My brother got me a book for plotting my plans for world domination. He and the rest think its all fun and games. But you just wait guys, this meek looking bat is going to surprise you someday 😉
And when I do, a movie will be made of my life. I expect this to be the theme song:
“Tea! That’s all I needed. A good cup of tea. A superheated infusion of free radicals and tannin. Just the thing for heating the synapses.” — the Tenth Doctor
Why exactly the doctor refers to tea as containing free radicals – I really don’t know. Perhaps his brain was still regenerating 😮 Moving on then – Tea! I love tea! I used to drink coffee everyday, throwing in the occasional cup of bagged green tea from time to time, Eventually, I started replacing my evening coffee with green tea. Sometime towards the end of 2012 I thought I’d see about loose leaf tea. several teapots and 400+ different teas later, I’m still learning more about wonderful Camellia Sinensis and coffee has taken the back seat. Yes, I have tried over 400 different teas. I keep them all logged in a spreadsheet so that I don’t lose track of what I like or don’t like (good tea is too expensive to accidentally repurchase a nope) I don’t drink herbal tea often, but I like peppermint, bamboo, and hibiscus teas sometimes. I don’t like chamomile at all, which is sad since it’s in so many herbal tea blends. I’m also not a huge fan of “dessert teas” (heavily flavored teas from places such as Teavana, Della Terra, or David’s Tea), but there are exceptions. I love window-shopping for pretty tea-wares, but I try to keep my own collection small and practical (I don’t have enough space to collect too much stuff). Here are some of my tea-wares:
His name is Winter and my husband, Eric, got him for me for our first Christmas. Winter is almost 10 years old and he has been my bestie all this time. He is with me almost all the time. Eric gets a little weirded out sometimes when my cat stares at me for too long or exhibits other worship-like behaviors. I think he’s just jealous that none of our pets love him as much as Winter loves me :p In fact, I believe all of our fur babies love me best, lol. I’m pretty sure the cat Eric had before he married me has switched affiliations – although she tends to be a bit of a loner most of the time.
Winter has a game he likes to play with Eric. He likes to pretend that he doesn’t like him. This involves hissing, getting tense whenever Eric walks by, making weird meows at him, etc. But it’s really all a game. He likes to creep by Eric slowly to get his attention. He will wait mid-creep or repeat the process if Eric doesn’t notice him. Then, as soon as Eric acknowledges his presence, Winter warbles a long and weird sort meow at him, as if he is annoyed for being noticed. He will be friendly with Eric from time to time if there is food involved.
I love my kitty ❤
Best Christmas present ever 🙂
I’ve decided to dedicate a category of my blog to interests, talents, and aspects of my personality that don’t fit neatly into my other categories. These will often, but not always, be short posts. Little “pieces of me” that make up the whole and that I think (or hope!) will be of interest to others.
First up, a useless but semi-bragable talent of mine. I can talk backwards! I’ve come across a couple other people who can talk backwards as well, but not the same as I do. I don’t “read” the words backwards in my head and pronounce them as if they were spelled that way, I say entire strings of words phonetically backwards so that they will sound like the original words if recorded and played in reverse.
Here’s an video that I made a year ago demonstrating (with the aid of the “ireverse pro” app on my phone) I decided to make a new one. 🙂
